The Reading & Writing Room is a splendid work of authentic Victorian grandeur, with its high ceilings, murals and twinkling chandeliers. Boasting some of London’s best views with floor to celing windows over the River Thames, London Eye and the adjacent award-winning Whitehall Gardens.

Formerly the Ladies’ Lounge of the National Liberal Club, The River Room is now a thoroughly welcoming venue suitable for events up to 70 guests.The River Room enjoys high ceilings, air-conditioning and wireless internet access, and our in-house AV company can provide on-site technicians as required.

Accommodating up to 50 people for a reception, the Terrace Room connects with the outside terrace and is a flexible space with air-conditioning, masses of natural light. A superb choice of refreshment and dining options are available.

During both World Wars, One Whitehall Place was used as a headquarters by the Intelligence Service. According to local legend, a passage once ran from The Cellar under Horse Guards Avenue to the Ministry of Defence, a little further along Whitehall. What’s certainly true is that the foundation stone for the original building, laid by the then Prime Minister, William Gladstone, can still be seen here.
