Our inspiration comes from the historic trading guilds of the area. Vintry was the centre for London wine merchants; Mercer was for noble textile sellers who specialised in fine silks and damasks. In the narrow streets near our hotel, this history perseveres. Yet the locale is now a destination for the modern traveller. It’s a place where architectural wonders share the cityscape with global powerhouses, alive with the bustle of commerce and conversation that reflect our first-class location at the centre of a turning world.

Plush velvet curtains, bespoke fabrics, leather door handles each design detail in our rooms and suites has been inspired by the merchant taylors who touted their wares on the nearby streets. There are historic navigation maps, and palm leaf wall-coverings, made-to-measure velvet headboards and soft carpets. But alongside these elegant references to the past, rooms are equipped with modern luxuries, from Nespresso machines to Marshall speakers.

We have three private rooms on the lower ground floor, each inflected with individual character and style, in a part of the hotel that is secluded and quiet. Whether guests choose our Library, Drawing Room or Music Room, they can be guaranteed an original and quiet venue for dinner, drinks, or business meetings.
