Named after the distinguished Sir Hans Sloane, who founded the British Museum and British Library. Sloane was an Irish physician, naturalist and collector, who also made important contributions to medicine, and was principal physician to Queen Anne, King George I, and King George II.

Named after the literary Virginia Woolf, who resided around the corner at 46 Gordon Square, as well as living in both Fitzroy and Brunswick Square. Woolf was an English writer, considered one of the most important modernist 20th-century authors.

Named after the celebrated E.M. Forster, who resided for a short period in nearby Brunswick Square. Forster was an English novelist, short story writer, and essayist. Many of his novels examined class difference and hypocrisy, including A Room With a View, Howards End, and A Passage to India.

Named after the author J.M Barrie, who lived in Guilford Street and 8 Grenville Street, just off Brunswick Square in Bloomsbury, when he first moved to London. His lodgings at Grenville Street inspired the siting of the Darlings’ house in his most famous book, Peter Pan.

Named after Charles Dickens, the 19th Century novelist, who lived at a variety of addresses in Bloomsbury. These included 14 Great Russell Street, Tavistock Square, and most famously, 48 Doughty Street, where the Charles Dickens Museum now resides. Dickens was celebrated for writing influential novels, such as Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, and Great Expectations.

Named after Emmeline Pankhurst, who lived in Russell Square, on the site of what is now, the Kimpton London Hotel. Pankhurst was a leading British political activist in the early 20th Century, and organiser of the British suffragette movement, who was influential in the campaign for women to win the right to vote.    

Named after Dr Charles West, a British physician, who specialised in paediatrics and obstetrics, and was primarily known as the founder of the first children’s hospital in Great Britain, the ‘Hospital for Sick Children’, now known as Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Named after Sir Francis Ronalds, who resided at 40 Queen Square between 1820-1822. Ronalds was a 19th Century English scientist and inventor, whose achievements embraced multiple disciplines, including electricity, meteorology and photography. He is recognised as the first electrical engineer, and several of his discoveries have had wide and lasting impact.

Named after Charles Darwin, the English biologist, who lived at 12 Upper Gower Street, Bloomsbury in 1839.  Darwin was a crucial figure in 19th Century science. His theory of evolution had a transformational impact, not only on biology, but also on other natural sciences and the new social sciences.
